Rally taken out against drug abuse, illegal trafficking

A rally organised by the Puducherry police on Wednesday stressed the need for people to stave off drug abuse. It was organised on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

A large number of people including 500 police recruits and about 500 students took part in the rally, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, at Vengata Subba Reddiar statue here.

R.S. Krishnia, Inspector General of Police and other senior police officials also participated.

Carrying placards and banners, the participants spread the message about the dangerous consequences of drug abuse. They also appealed to the people to cooperate with the police against illicit trafficking. The rally, which went along the arterial roads such as Anna Salai, Jawahalal Nehru street, Sardar Patel road, culminated at beach.
