Awareness rallies, signature campaign and ‘samapanthi pojanam’ marked World AIDS Day in Namakkal on Tuesday.

Collector D. Jagannathan administered the World AIDS Day oath at the Government Namakkal District Headquarters Hospital and signed a banner to kickstart the signature campaign creating awareness on HIV/AIDS.

The theme for the World AIDS Day 2012 is ‘Getting to Zero’ reminding of the goal of bringing down new HIV infections and related deaths, discrimination of HIV positive persons and vulnerable communities to zero”, Mr. Jagannathan noted.

The Collector also flagged off a bicycle rally in which 200 school going boys and girls participated.

He also distributed prizes to college students who emerged winners in the drawing and essay writing competitions that were conducted in connection with the AIDS Day observance.

Mr. Jagannathan also participated in a ‘samapanthi pojanamthat was organised to mark the AIDS Day.
