Erstwhile Makkal Tamil Desam activists also join party
CHENNAI: R.S. Rajakannappan, who resigned from the Assembly and the DMK, met AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence on Friday and joined the party.
He was accompanied by members of the erstwhile Makkal Tamil Desam, launched by him when he quit the AIADMK a few years ago. Mr. Kannappan later joined the DMK and got elected from Ilayankudi constituency in 2006. He quit the party alleging that he was humiliated.
“I am moved because I have come back to the parent organisation. The dark period that has engulfed the State will soon be over and only Ms. Jayalalithaa can take on the DMK regime,” Mr Rajakannappan told the reporters.
He said the general council of the Makkal Tamil Desam met on Friday and decided to join the AIADMK.
Asked whether he would contest from the Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency, he said all decision would be taken by “Amma.”
