Two houses near the Sholayar Dam were damaged due to landslides in Valparai, which has been witnessing heavy rains in the last two days.

According to sources, rains that started on Thursday continued to pound the hill town till the small hours of Saturday. The sustained downpour flooded roads and increased inflow into the Sholayar Dam. The sources said that the water level in the Dam stood at 160 feet.

On Saturday, the Valparai town witnessed mild showers while the estate areas saw heavy downpour. None was injured in the landslide as the occupants of the house managed to escape in time. Highways Department officials removed trees that fell on roads. The district administration is in a state of alert to rush to residents’ help.
