Udhagamandalam: After a respite, many parts of the Nilgiris including Coonoor, Kotagiri and Udhagamandalam experienced incessant rain on Wednesday.

With the district yet to recover from the deluge and landslides of last month, the rain was viewed with fear at many places.

Showers hampered restoration works on the damaged roads and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway.

However, official sourcs said that the rain was beneficial to the tea planting community and standing annual crops.

Speaking to The Hindu, the Nilgiris Collector Anandrao V.Patil said that the district machinery was in a state of preparedness.

He said that officials have been instructed to step up vigil. The situation was reviewed at a meeting held here on Wednesday.
