Heavy rain lashed different parts of Kanyakumari district on Sunday. Though the PWD officials stopped the release of water from Pechipparai dam within two days after opening the dam on June 1, the present rain would be beneficial to the farmers to continue with agriculture operations.

However, the officials released 200 cusecs of water from Perunchani dam for the benefit of farmers in the tail-end areas.

As all the waterbodies in the district have comfortable storage of water due to rain, the farmers are hopeful of getting a good crop in the first season (Kannipoov).
