Two injured in lightning

Nagercoil: Heavy rain continued to lash various parts of the district for the second day on Tuesday. Normal life was also affected in the district. School students as well as office goers were put to hardship.

Low-lying areas were flooded and the residents were shifted to safer places.

Two persons sustained burn injuries when the lightning struck them. Revathi (46), wife of Gopalan of Ethamozhi and Anna Packiyam (58), wife of Ponnulingam of the same area sustained injuries.

Later they were rushed to the Government hospital for treatment. The brick kiln industries at Thikurichi, Aralvoimozhi, Athencode, Ganarnvilai, Moovattuukam were also affected.

Fishermen did not venture into the sea owing to rough weather.

More than 25 houses were surrounded by rainwater in Arokiyapuram near Kanyakumari and the inmates were shifted to safer places.


A maximum rainfall of 41.5 mm was recorded at Kottaram followed by 28.5 mm in Kannimaer, 24 mm in Aralvoimozhi, 23.2 mm in Surulode, 20.2 mm in Perunchani, 15 mm in Kannimar, 14.4 mm in Myladi and 13 mm in Pechipparai

The water level in Pechipparai stood at 36 feet, 62.80 feet in Perunchani, 7.87 feet in Chittar I and 7.97 feet in Chittar II.
