The newly constructed Mambazathuraiyaru dam at Villukuri near Thucklay has reached its full capacity i.e., 54.12 feet on Thursday following incessant rain which continued to lash the district for the second day.

Agriculture operations in the western and eastern parts of the district were in full swing thanks to adequate water received by way of ‘Nilam.’

Low-lying areas in the western parts of the district were flooded with rain water particularly at Marthandam. The place witnessed heavy rain accompanied with thunder and lightning for the last two days. Maximum rainfall of 105 mm was recorded at Koziporvilai followed by 42 mm in Eraniel, 37 mm each in Chittar II, Thiruvattar and Mullankinavilai, 35.4 mm in Surulode, 18.1 mm in Colachel, 12.3 mm in Balamore, 12 mm in Nagercoil and 8.4 mm in Kurunthencode.

Water level in Pechipparai dam stood at 15.65 feet with an inflow of 172 cusecs, 39.80 feet in Perunchani with an inflow of 124 cusecs of water, 6.85 feet in Chittar I, 6.95 feet in Chittar II and 9.60 feet in Poigai dam.
