TIRUCHI: The divisional railway authorities conducted a mock drill on Wednesday to test the alertness of the emergency railway staff and that of other departments.
The drill commenced after a loco pilot of a light engine informed the divisional control office here that the loco had hit a van between Kattur and Pullambadi in the Tiruchi – Chennai broad gauge section at 3.30 p.m. causing four casualties. A long and short siren was blown to alert the railway staff of different departments. An alert was also sounded to police and 108 Ambulance.
A medical relief van carrying a medical team, headed by the Chief Medical Superintendent of Ponmalai Railway Police Hospital Dr. P. Velusamy, and para-medical staff left from Tiruchi to the “accident spot”.

Railway sources said the Senior Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer G. Srinivasan along with his staff reached the spot. However, it was announced that it was a mock drill.
