To test the preparedness of staff during emergencies

: A mock drill was conducted by the Madurai Railway Division on Tuesday to test the state of preparedness among railway officers and staff during emergencies.

The Station Master of Sattur railway station sent out an alarm claiming that a van hit against train no. 56319 Nagercoil-Coimbatore passenger at a manned level crossing between Sattur and Tulukapatti stations. Driver and co-passenger of the van got grievously injured. Train engine crew and passengers of the train were safe. On hearing the siren at the divisional office at 11.37 a.m. all the staff and officers rushed to the Divisional Control Office. Medical relief van and breakdown special left Madurai immediately along with accident relief equipment, tools and other essential support, a statement said. Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager, A.K. Goel, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, T. Venkatasubramanian, Divisional Security Commissioner, M. Ramesh, medical officers with paramedical staff and others rushed to the accident spot.

Senior Divisional Safety Officer, K.S. Lakshmanan, also rushed to the spot. The DRM declared that the accident was a mock drill.
