With no new trains or projects announced in the Railway Budget- 2012 for Salem Railway Division, general secretary of the Salem City Chamber of Commerce A. Jayaseelan had expressed his disappointments over the “injustice” meted out to the people of Salem.

Speaking at the “Budget Talk – 2012”, conducted by The Hindu , Mr. Jayaseelan said that in spite of Salem Division got bifurcated from Palakkad Railway Division before three years, Salem Division failed to get its due share. “Railway concentrate only on freight earnings through the division and not on introducing new trains that have been long demanded by the people of Salem”, Mr. Jayaseelan added.

Railways concentrate on earnings than on passenger safety which is evident through the budget as it promises passenger safety in six months that did not happen in past 60 years, he added. Only through rail connectivity to ports in State, economic activity could happen in Salem, he said.
