With no new trains or projects announced in the Railway Budget- 2012 for Salem Railway Division, general secretary of the Salem City Chamber of Commerce A. Jayaseelan had expressed his disappointments over the “injustice” meted out to the people of Salem.

Speaking at the “Budget Talk – 2012”, conducted by The Hindu , Mr. Jayaseelan said that in spite of Salem Division got bifurcated from Palakkad Railway Division before three years, Salem Division failed to get its due share. “Railway concentrate only on freight earnings through the division and not on introducing new trains that have been long demanded by the people of Salem”, Mr. Jayaseelan added.

Railways concentrate on earnings than on passenger safety which is evident through the budget as it promises passenger safety in six months that did not happened in past 60 years, he added. Mr. Jayaseelan said that only through rail connectivity to ports in the State, economic activity could happen and industries in Salem would witness developments.

But the demand for new trains has been rejected by the railways thereby blocking the industrial growth.
