In a simultaneous action, officials from the Department of Labour raided TASMAC outlets in the city and peripheries here on Saturday.

Following complaints that many of the TASMAC outlets sold liquor above the MRP rates, Collector Anshul Mishra had ordered the officials to investigate. Additional Commissioner Raja, Joint Commissioner M. Radhakrishna Pandian and others identified the locations, from where such complaints were coming. As many as 10 teams comprising Assistant Commissioner N. Govindan, accompanied by five members from the Consumer Forum, raided the shops from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Under the guise of a customer, when the Forum members purchased liquor in various outlets, the racket came to light. The officials then reached the spot and seized the goods.

Though the maximum retail prices were printed on each liquor bottle, the staff allegedly hiked the price by Rs 5 or Rs 10. During the probe it was found that they sometimes even sold it at fancy prices, when there was a demand. Cases were booked against salesmen. Officials checked shops in Periyar bus stand, Palanganatham, Goripalayam, Simakkal, Munichalai, Puttuthope, Workshop Road and Sholavandan. Public can contact the Labour Department at 0452-2604388 and furnish details, which would be treated as confidential, the official said.
