Coimbatore’s manufacturing capability in the automobile sector has added another feather to its cap. The city-based Jayem Automotives has built race cars for MRF.

J. Anand, Managing Director of Jayem, told The Hindu on Saturday that the MRF Formula 2000 cars, which will be launched on August 24, were assembled here with Renault engines and critical components manufactured by Jayem. “We have collaboration with an Italian company. We have built these cars for MRF. We have the infrastructure and the manufacturing capability. Hence, no additional investments were made for this project,” he says. The project for the MRF cars started in January-February this year.

While the manufacturing was by Jayem Automotives, the servicing is done by J.A. Motor Sport, which is the sports arm of Jayem.

Jayem is an automobile research and development company that is also associated with the Tata Group. It works with the Tata, complementing their development work.
