Says Manachanallur Taluk Unorganised Workers' Union
TIRUCHI: The Manachanallur Taluk Unorganised Workers' Union affiliated to the CITU urged the State Government to take steps for setting up the office of the Unorganised Workers Welfare Board in all districts and post adequate staff to the same.
A resolution adopted at a meeting of the union held at Manachanallur recently said the family assistance to the bereaved families of the members should be hiked to Rs.1 lakh to benefit the kith and kin. Steps for enacting an integrated legislation and constituting a welfare board for the unorganised labourers should be taken jointly by the Centre and state governments.
The meeting pleaded with the Centre to bring down the prices of petrol and diesel. Referring to the increase in the prices in the past, the resolution said the recent downward revision in the prices of fuel was not in accordance with the dip in the international prices. The recent reduction in the oil prices was very meagre. The impact of hike in the fuel prices on the cost of essential commodities still continued, affecting the common masses to a big extent.
