It will help to improve maintenance work, says staff association
PERAMBALUR: The Tiruchi district wing of the Tamil Nadu Forest Staff Association has urged the State Government to sanction a District Forest office to Perambalur.
The sanctioning of a District Forest office here will ensure more efficiency in the service conditions of the employees and also improve upon the maintenance of forest areas in the district, the secretary of the Association, P. Mayavelu, said here on Monday.
He pointed out that the district accounted for about 25,000 hectares of reserve forest and about 600 tanks had been brought under the social forestry plantation.
Presently, the responsibility of administration of the forest in the district has been assigned to different officials stationed at Athur, Salem and Tiruchi.
Apart from the Forest Department employees, contractors executing various works and the beneficiaries of different schemes being implemented by the department have to visit the offices at Athur, Salem and Tiruchi.
Although the State Government recently issued an order sanctioning a District Forest office for Perambalur, the same had been cancelled.
There were a few surplus divisional officers at places such as Salem, Erode and Coimbatore, he said suggesting that any one of these officers be posted at Perambalur.
Pointing out that the Forest administration in the district was done by `too many masters,' he said that the starting of a district office here would improve the efficiency of the employees who now have to go to different places for concurrence or approval for the execution of various schemes.
