Says he spoke the truth like MGR on "lack of respect" in the DMK I spoke the truth on "lack of respect" in the DMK: Sarath Kumar
CHENNAI: Actor-politician R. Sarath Kumar on Thursday said he regretted having left the All- India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
"I am an ardent fan of MGR," said Mr. Sarath Kumar, who came at the fag-end of a public meeting organised by AIADMK Thousand Lights assembly constituency candidate Adhi Rajaram. The actor along with wife Radhika had joined the AIADMK a few days ago.
The crowd, which had been swelling for over three hours, cheered as Mr. Sarath Kumar said he spoke the truth "like MGR" while referring to the lack of respect in the DMK. He said that a name change has been going on in the DMK; it is now "Dayanidhi Munnetra Kazhagam." Unlike AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, who looked after the Tamils as her own family, the DMK leaders were furthering the cause of their own families, said the `Supreme Star' clad in black trousers and a crisp white shirt.
Flays DMK leadership
Mr. Sarath Kumar also took a swipe at the leadership tussle in the DMK. According to him, party deputy general secretary M.K Stalin and Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran were both gunning for Chief Ministership. He told the gathering that they had to look to Ms. Jayalalithaa for a "capable leader, a capable personality."
The crowd, consisting of party workers and curious locals from the neighbourhood, dispersed after the actor-politician's brief speech that ended with an appeal to defeat Mr. Stalin by voting for Mr. Rajaram.
Earlier in the day, he campaigned in parts of north Chennai for AIADMK's candidate Sekhar Babu and a few other constituencies in the city.
