CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa on Wednesday urged the Centre to install a statue of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran in the Parliament complex.

In a statement, she said the AIADMK regime had taken the initiative for installing the statue in 2003 and obtained permission.

As per the specifications suggested by a parliamentary panel, the statue was submitted to the committee in June.

She blamed the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for stalling the installation at the last minute.

She criticised the move to install the statue of the former Union Minister `Murasoli' Maran in the Parliament complex.
