Workshop on `Career guidance for nutritionists' elucidates diverse opportunities
Tuticorin: The Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the Holy Cross Home Science College, here, conducted a workshop on `Career guidance for nutritionists' on Tuesday, to elucidate the diverse career opportunities available to students of dietetics and catering management.
Interacting with students, K. Kalaiselvan, District Employment Officer, said youth should develop self-confidence to succeed in life.
"One should start developing soft skills during his/her days in the educational institutions to stay ahead in the competitive examinations," he said.
He explained to them the facilities arranged by the Department of Employment and Training at the District Employment Office situated at Koramballam near here, for students to prepare for competitive examinations.
"Anyone can access the library there, which has magazines and books meant for examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission as well as State-level boards," he said.
Aruna Indrani, Business Manager, Guimax Education, explained the techniques to face interviews. She reminded them that dress code, communication skills and mannerisms at the time of facing an interview play an important role in deciding one's career.
C. Sathyalakshmi, Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, detailed the role of dieticians in the hospital and hospitality sectors.
