"Vote DPA to benefit from schemes"
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday wanted the people to elect Democratic Progressive Alliance candidates in local body polls to ensure that the projects sanctioned by the Centre and State governments were fulfilled.
Addressing an election meeting at Mylapore, he said that only good leaders at the local level could make sure that the people got the benefits of the schemes chalked out by the Central and State governments.
The DMK government was working with the Centre and had drawn up many schemes for the welfare of the people.
As soon as the DMK came to power, it began fulfilling the promises made to the people. Action was initiated on each of the promises, he said.
Citing an instance, Mr. Karunanidhi said that many came to him with petitions seeking jobs for their sons or brothers. Having gauged the depth of the unemployment problem, the DMK promised in its manifesto that it would lift the freeze on employment.
Since June 1, over a lakh appointment orders were issued. It was the DMK's firm belief that industrialisation was a way of generating jobs, he said.
