It will sharpen intelligence: Minister Palani Manickam He assures help to Tamil University in establishing a modern publication division

Thanjavur: Reading of books regularly will increase the intelligence and personality of a person, said S. S. Palani Manickam, Union Minister of State for Finance here on Friday.

Physical exercise would improve the health of a person while regular reading would enrich reader's knowledge, he said at the inauguration of the silver jubilee book exhibition organised by Tamil University. He also released 25 books published by the University on the occasion.

Stating that he spent a portion of his income on purchasing books, he said he used to present books to others.

The Minister purchased 25 books at the exhibition.

He assured to help the Tamil University in establishing a new modern publication division at its 1000 acres campus. At present the publication division is functioning from palace complex.

Karpoora Sundara Pandiyan, secretary, Tamil Development, said that the University should continue organising book exhibitions every year and release at least 100 books in the next year exhibition.

Rajendran, Director, Tamil Development, said that Thanjavur could rightly be called the Tamil capital of the State. C. Vijayaraj Kumar, Collector, stressed on the need for developing reading habit of all books. A. C. Mohandoss, Director, South Zone Cultural Centre said that books helped in disciplining the mind.C. Subramaniam, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, Gandhi Kannadasan, Publisher of books, Bhaskaran, Registrar of Tamil University also spoke. The exhibition would last till June 19.
