CUDDALORE: The body of a Pygmy sperm whale was washed ashore at the Silver Beach here on Friday. The whale measuring 2.5 metre long and 68 cm wide weighed 300 kg.

District Forest Officer V.Duraisamy and Forest Ranger R.Pannerselvam said that soon after they received information that a massive sea animal was floating in the coast they inspected it.

The body was in a highly decomposed and disintegrated state. They sought the help of the marine biology centre director T.Balasubramanian to identify it. It was identified as that of a Pygmy sperm whale. Preliminary investigation showed that the whale might have been hit by the propeller of a boat.
