For the annual ‘poochorithal’ festival at Samayapuram
District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan has instructed the Public Works Department to release water in the Peruvalai and Pullampadi canals during the annual poochorithal festival at the Sri Mariamman Temple at Samayapuram, scheduled to be held on March 10.
Speaking at a meeting to review the arrangements for the festival, Ms.Muralidharan also directed the temple authorities, town panchayat and the police to ensure adequate security for the festival. Volunteers of National Service Scheme from the colleges could be roped in to regulate the crowd.
The town panchayat should ensure cleanliness around the temple and additional sanitary workers would be deployed. Basic amenities such as drinking water supply and toilets should be provided for the devotees.
Steps will be taken to provide uninterrupted power supply during the festival; however, generators should be kept ready.
Additional buses would be operated during the festival period by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. The buses would be operated from Tiruchi, Thuraiyur, Musiri, Perambalur and Chathram Bus stand round the clock. The Collector also instructed the officials to set up medical camps for the devotees. Health inspectors should conduct checks to ensure the quality of drinking water and food at hotels and at places where annadhanams are organised.
