The municipality has planned to expand the new bus stand here and upgrade it to “A” grade municipal bus stand with better amenities and larger number of parking bays for buses.
The bus stand, with an area of 4.99 acres, has a large under-utilised site in its vicinity. A large drainage canal passes beside while another site in the nearby area is being utilised as a bicycle stand.
“We have drafted two proposals and the first proposal aims at utilising the canal site and the bicycle stand area properly.
“It has been planned to expand the bus stand by utilising the existing bicycle stand. The bicycle and two-wheeler shed could be taken to the underground, paving the way for expansion of the bus stand,” says R. Murugesan, Commissioner of Pudukottai Municipality.
The second proposal, he says, aims at utilising the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation-owned bus depot, also at a stone’s throw away from the bus stand area,
“However, with a view to avoiding delay likely to be involved in transfer of land and other allied matters from the Corporation, the first plan could be implemented on an expeditious basis,” says Mr. Murugesan.
K. Nagarajan, District Revenue Officer, and a host of several other officials inspected the site.
