Members of Shiv Sena and Hindu Makkal Katchi staged separate agitations in the city on Thursday in protest against the celebrations being held in connection with Valentine’s Day.

The Sena members, apart from holding demonstration near the Railway station, also conducted a symbolic marriage between a goat and a dog to highlight their view that love shown on the Valentine’s Day was fake.

Shiv Sena district president K. V. Saravanan said Valentine’s Day could never suit the Indian culture and hence, need to be banned.

The policemen both in uniform and mufti were deployed near parks and places where youth gathered in large numbers as a safety measure.
