CHENNAI: Police arrested 225 persons including Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P. Nedumaran and film director Bharathiraja, who attempted to show black flags during Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Chennai on Sunday.

Police sources said that the arrested, also including 75 members from the People’s Art and Literary Association (PALA), had gathered outside the Panagal Maligai in Saidapet on Sunday afternoon.

They were arrested and taken away from there before Ms. Gandhi’s convoy passed through to head to the election meeting at Island Grounds, police said.

The arrested were kept at a marriage hall in Saidapet and released in the evening, police added.
