Vehicular traffic was disrupted twice in a space of about two hours causing hardship to the people of Manaparai municipality and its surroundings on Thursday when a number of people staged a road blockade demanding immediate action with regard to the “missing” husband of the chairperson of Manapparai panchayat union.

According to sources, Vadivelu, an AIADMK functionary and the husband of Dhanalakshmi, the chairperson of Manapparai panchayat union, had been missing since Wednesday afternoon.

Dhanalakshmi’s father Ponnusamy lodged a complaint with Manapparai police on Thursday morning.

However, alleging that the police had failed to respond immediately, a number of persons staged a road blockade opposite Manapparai bus stand about 4 p.m.

They dispersed after Deputy Superintendent of Police Meena, inspector Kummuraja, and tahsildar Pandian assured them that they would be given some information within two hours.

Once again around 6 p.m., they squatted in front of the police station paralysing the traffic alleging that the police had failed to get any information on the missing man.

When the inspector’s intervention failed to break the impasse, former MLA Chinnasamy intervened and pacified them saying that the police would get some information positively by Friday morning. Then the public dispersed.
