VELLORE: Students of the Government Vellore Medical College at Adukkamparai stayed away from their classes on Wednesday protesting against the Centre’s order making it compulsory for MBBS students to do service in a Primary Health Centre for one year after completing the course without any guarantee of appointment in the PHC or any other Government hospital.

A students’ spokesman said that they were willing to serve in the PHCs in rural years provided they were assured of employment by the Government immediately after completion of one-year rural service.
