TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Nala Amaippugal has urged the State Government to protect water sources by removing all encroachments as per the directive of the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court.

A team of Amaippugal representatives recently inspected water sources in various parts of the district. At the meeting held at the end of the inspection, a resolution to this effect was adopted.

The team members said the field visit proved encroachments beyond doubt.

Another resolution pleaded for measurement of the boundaries of the rivers Koraiyar, Kudamurutti, Ariyaru and Uyyakondan. The boundaries should be demarcated as per the 1929 settlement map.

The meeting urged the Government to strengthen the bunds of the Koraiyar and Kudamurutti rivers.
