The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday vehemently opposed the proposed upward revision of power tariff in Puducherry.

In a statement, secretary of CPI (M)’s Puducherry unit Perumal said that the Puducherry Electricity Department had planned to increase the power tariff by 200 to 300 per cent. It was proposed to collect Rs. 308 crore from the consumers.

It would increase the burden of common people, who were already hit by the steep increase in prices of essential commodities.
