The process of renewal of ration cards by affixing an additional slip to extend their validity for a year, began at the ration shops in the district on Tuesday.

The district has about 7.65 lakh ration cards and 1,134 ration shops.

The additional slips would be affixed at the respective ration shops.

Collector Jayashree Muralidharan who inspected the process at a ration shop run by Chinthamani Cooperative Stores at Puthur said the process would be carried out from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the ration shops.

About 100 to 125 ration cards would be affixed with the slips in each shop every day, Monday to Friday.

Notice boards indicating the schedule of affixing the slips area-wise would be put up at the ration shops.

Those who were not able to get the slips affixed on the notified date, could get it done on the Saturday of the respective week.

The process would go on till February 27, Ms.Muralidharan said.
