Passengers using domestic departure terminal 1 at the Chennai airport are facing a problem for the past one week owing to malfunctioning of the air-conditioning system.

A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official concedes that the problem has been persisting for the past two weeks. A dozen compressors are involved in cooling the terminal buildings – international and domestic. Only six of them have been functioning for the past 15 days.

Another AAI officer says this is not the first summer that they are facing a similar problem. Tripping due to fluctuation in power supply is common during the peak of summer and, sometimes, the compressors do not function.
