A women's forum has urged Collector V.Amuthavalli to order a CB-CID inquiry into the continuing incidence of Dalit students' deaths in hostels across the district.

In a representation handed over to the Collector on Monday, the Enaindha Kaigal Magalir Koottamaippu, owing allegiance to the Social Awareness Society for Youths (a human rights organisation) said that during the course of one year, at least five Dalit students died in hostels under suspicious circumstances.

The forum has listed out names of students who were found dead in hostels located at various places and the dates mentioned: Bharath at Pennadam on September 2, 2010; Alwin Bose in a private school hostel in Cuddalore on January 31, 2011; Rajadurai at Sepakkam on September 3, 2011, and, Vignesh and Vimalraj at Nandanar school hostel at Chidambaram on July 26 and November 17, 2011 respectively.

It called upon the Collector to initiate action against those who were responsible for the death of Vignesh and Vimalraj of Nandanar school. As the hostel attached to the Nandanar school was in a dilapidated condition, the forum sought shifting of the hostel to a new building.

It also sought proper road link to the Dalit habitation located at Keezhkundalapadi in Perampattu panchayat (Chidambaram block).
