More than 600 primary school teachers staged a protest fast demanding among other things pay parity with Central Government employees of their cadre here on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu Elementary Teachers Organisations Joint Action Committee (TETOJAC) had given the call for the protest fast held in front of the Karur Municipal office.

The TETOJAC state high level committee member and district president of the Tamil Nadu Aramba Palli Asiriyar Koottani S. Moses led the protest fast. The protestors said that the fast was the first stage of protest and depending on the response of the State Government to their demands the TETOJAC would intensify its agitation after December 27 with continuous road roko to attract attention of the government.
