CUDDALORE: The international community will be urged to exert pressure on the Mahinda Rajapaksa government in Sri Lanka to honour its promise of devolving powers to the Tamil-dominated areas in the island nation, said Subramanian Swamy, Janata Party president.

Addressing a press conference at Chidambaram on Tuesday, Dr Swamy said Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa had given the assurance that after the elimination of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam he would devolve powers to the provinces. But Mr. Rajapaksa was yet to fulfil his promise. Therefore, Dr Swamy had embarked upon the mission of mobilising support of the leaders of various countries, including the U.S. and China, to prevail upon Mr Rajapaksa to honour his commitments.
