‘Legends of Carnatic Music’ exhibition

CHENNAI: The walls of Apparao Infinity Gallery have been adorned with rare photographs of over 40 legendary Carnatic musicians of different eras.

They form part of the ‘Legends of Carnatic Music’ exhibition that would be on at the Gallery till October 25.

On display are pictures of M.S. Subbulakshmi, M.L. Vasanthakumari along with her parents, Veena S. Balachander, Semmangudi Srinivas Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar with Balachander, Palghat Mani Iyer and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar among others. A separate frame displays ‘Maestros in Concert’ that includes K.V. Narayanaswamy, Mysore T. Chowdiah, M.S. Gopalakrishna, M. Balamuralikrishna, D.K. Pattammal and Madurai Somu.

Besides, pictures of Pudukottai Dakshinamurthy Pillai, T.N. Rajaratnam Pillai and Rama Bhagavathar have been displayed. Sruti Foundation Trustee Sukanya Sankar told The Hindu on Sunday that “the idea was to create awareness among youngsters about the contributions made by the legendary Carnatic musicians. The exhibition is being held as part of silver jubilee celebrations of Sruti.
