The presence of a herd of six wild elephants near the villages for nearly a fortnight continues to instil fear in the minds of people.
The herd entered human habitations near Harur from Salem forests division.
The elephants were camping in Katpadi Reserve Forests on Tuesday night.
When the officials and the public started chasing the animals, they entered Veppampatti. Sakthivel, a farmer, was injured while chasing the herd. He was admitted to the government hospital for treatment. The herd said to have destroyed maize and sugarcane in Velampatti, Mambadi and Theerthamalai.
The herd is expected to move towards Krishnagiri district on Friday.
A four-year-old female elephant was found dead near a hillock in Thally Katta area in Anchetti reserve forests on Wednesday.
Forest officials conducted post-mortem examination on Thursday and the carcass was cremated.
