Preparations for jallikattu in full swing

Preparations for the conduct of jallikattu at Alanganallur, Palamedu and Avaniyapuram are in full swing.

Youth who plan to take part in the traditional bull taming event have started submitting their application forms to the organisers from Friday.

According to J. Sundarajan, head of the jallikattu organising committee in Alanganallur, the participants should be between the age of 18 and 40, should bring three passport -size photos, along with address proof, and submit the applications at the office of the revenue inspector. Prizes include laptops, gold and silver coins, silver utensils, washing machines and silk sarees. “This year at least 700 bulls will participate in the event. Last year there were 500”, he said. The erection of barricades and other works are on at Allanganallur. The organisers said participants from other districts would be given priority. On Friday, several officials from the district administration visited Avaniyapuram .
