Will discuss the standard in higher educational institutions
President Pranab Mukherjee will interact with the Vice-Chancellors of Central universities next week to discuss the standard of education in higher educational institutions. The last meeting held by any President in his capacity as Visitor of all Central universities was in August of 2003 during the tenure of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Vice-Chancellors of 40 universities will attend the meeting on February 5. On the agenda are issues related to raising the standard of the Central universities to world class universities, improving the quality of research and bringing in efficiency in the working of these universities. Vice-Chancellors have been asked to make a brief presentation about the institution highlighting its achievements and problems.
Highly reliable sources told The Hindu that the ground realities are hugely different for the Central universities in India with Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University and the Aligarh Muslim University being well established while those set up later like Jawaharlal Nehru University and the North Eastern Hill University were having issues.
