Woman cheated by gang of three

A young man and a woman accompanied by an elderly woman allegedly cheated a woman to the tune of Rs. 4 lakh after giving her fake gold jewellery.

Muthialpet police said the culprits came to the ball bearing shop run by Chandraprakash (30) and his wife Ranjana (26) at Nainiappan Street, Manadi on Monday.

Ranjana was alone in the shop when the male suspect, claiming to be a native of Rajasthan, showed her some gold jewellery and said he wanted to sell them for the treatment of the elderly woman accompanying him, who he said was his mother.

Ranjana checked a gold chain that was original. She gave Rs. 4 lakh to the man, purchasing close to 50 sovereigns from him.

The trio then fled with the cash. The cheating came to light after Chandraprakash later checked the rest of the gold jewellery and realised they were fake, sources said.

Man attacked, robbed of valuables

Three men attacked a 55-year-old man outside the Vadapalani police station on Monday night and robbed him of a gold ring, Rs. 5,000 and a mobile phone.

Vadapalani police said the incident took place when the victim Gyanaraj, an executive working at Mahindra City and a resident of Ponneri,was on his way home after work.

He was walking near the police station towards a bus stop when he was intercepted by the trio who attacked him with a stone.

They snatched the cash, valuables and a few office documents from him and fled, sources said.
