Rs. 6.5 lakh goes missing from scooter

A sum of Rs. 6.5 lakh allegedly placed in the box under the seat of a scooter was stolen on Thursday afternoon.

The police said Kapil Dev (28), a real-estate dealer and a resident of Natham, near Kundrathur, had borrowed the money from a friend for a property registration and was heading home. He stopped at a tea shop near the bus terminus and returned to find the seat lock broken and a cover containing the money missing, the police added. Kundrathur police have registered a case.

Chain snatched

An unidentified man on a motorcycle snatched a gold chain from a woman in Ayanavaram on Wednesday.

Police sources said Saraswathi (45), a resident of Periya Kancheepuram, was returning from a shop near her mother’s house. She was walking through Thanthai Periyar Nagar when the man rode close to her and tried to snatch the five-sovereign chain she was wearing. Saraswathi resisted but the culprit managed to ride away with a portion of the chain, sources said.

Two held under Goondas Act

The founder of an illegal non-banking finance company was detained on Wednesday under the Goondas Act.

I.P. Yesudoss, the founder of Aphro Trust, and Devi, coordinator of the trust, were arrested on October 12 on charges of cheating innocent members of self-help groups. The Aphro Group of Companies and Trust, with a registered office at Ennore and branch office at Kolathur, was allegedly doing business without the permission of the Reserve Bank of India
