With the non-inclusion of the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital, Tiruchi, in the list of institutions to be upgraded, the district has been witnessing protests from all sections of the society. The degree of disappointment has assumed a greater proportion in the wake of switch over to Salem, although rumours were doing the rounds in this regard for the past one year. The Communist Party of India (CPI) has already launched its agitation and led by the district secretary of the party, M. Selvaraj, the party cadres staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate.
Meanwhile, the district unit of the CPI-M has condemned the Centre's decision and called upon the State Government to intervene and render justice to Tiruchi district.
