CUDDALORE: The enforcement squad of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has detected a power theft amounting to over Rs.3 lakh by a lodge in Chidambaram.

According to K.Suriyanarayanan, Superintending Engineer, TNEB, Cuddalore, the enforcement squad had put the provisional loss to the Board on this score to Rs 3.16 lakh.

The modus operandi was to byepass the meter so that the power consumption would not be recorded.

Since the owner of the lodge had come forward to compound the case in lieu of criminal proceedings, he remitted a sum of Rs. 32,000 to the Board.

The remaining amount would be paid in installments.

The SE said that any information regarding power theft could be conveyed to the Superintending Engineer (Enforcement), Madurai Circle, over 94430-37508.
