Steps being taken to enhance generation: minister
: Power supply would be streamlined from June. The state would become a power surplus one by the year-end, said Minister for Finance O. Paneerselvam.
He was distributing free mixies, grinders and fans to beneficiaries in a function at Jeyamangalam and Erassakkanaickanur in Theni and Cumbum unions in the district on Saturday.
Steps were being taken to enhance power generation in all existing power stations in the state. New power units would also start generating power before December, he promised.
The state government schemes were not only beneficial to the present generation but also for the future generation. Uplift of the poor and the downtrodden was the prime goal of the government, the Minister said.
In the last two years, 3.2 lakh houses were constructed and handed over to the poor. Distribution of gold for ‘mangalsutra’ had not only prevented cancellation of marriage but also avoided inordinate delay in marriages to women, he added.
In his special address, Collector K.S. Palanisamy said that the government had supplied sufficient quantity of fans, mixies and grinders for distribution to all beneficiaries at two villages in each union in the district recently.
The government had allotted 70,000 sets of fans, mixies and grinders to the district in the second phase for 2012-13. A total of 11,072 beneficiaries received goods till date.
