Power production from the first unit of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) was suspended after a breakdown. The production from the unit, which has capacity of 210 mw, came to a halt around 2.40 a.m. on Friday.

The breakdown occurred in an air pre-heater of the unit after failure was identified in the support bearing equipment, reliable sources from TTPS, said.

Restoration works were taken up on a war footing and sources added that production from the suspended unit was expected to resume by Sunday night.

Since temperature was beyond normal in the unit, it required enough time to step in the unit until the temperature came down to normal conditions, sources added.

With this suspension, there is a production shortfall of 210 mw.

Except the first unit, other four units each with a capacity of 210 mw power were running in full swing.
