A 48-year-old senior employee of Chennai Port Trust was killed in an accident near Tambaram on GST Road on Sunday.
B. Seran of Perungalathur had gone to Island Grounds on Sunday with his wife Geetha and their two children. The couple was returning home on a motorcycle with the children following on another motorcycle, driven by son Udayakumar. Around 11 p.m., Seran was waiting to cross GST Road, at a gap in the median, when a speeding car rammed a safety barricade ahead of the median. In the impact, the barricade was thrown off and it hit Mr. Seran on the head. He succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning. The car driver, 25-year-old Mani of Kaavankarai, was booked for speeding and driving under influence.
Mr. Seran, a senior superintendent at Chennai Port Trust, had won numerous awards for driftwood sculpture and was gunning for a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
