`Popularise traditional art forms'

Artist summer camp at Gandhigram Rural Institute

Dindigul: Art is an expression of imagination and enhances human values.

It is also symbol of our tradition and portrays our custom and heritage.

This was highlighted at the artist summer camp held at the Gandhigram Rural Institute in Gandhigram on Saturday.

In her special address, Piramila Singh, Professor of Mahatma Gandhi Gramodaya Vishwa Vidyalaya said various traditional art forms should be popularised among youth. Artists should speak to the people and carry their ideas through art only, she said.

In his special address, GRI Vice-Chancellor, T. Karunakaran, said the main objective of the training programme was to bring out hidden talents of artists and sculptors and encourage young artists to perform better.

Artist Jagadeeswaranandha from Bangalore inaugurated the workshop and Professor Jayashankar Mishra detailed about Madhubani art form to the participants.
