: The Indian Bank lok adalat for pre-litigation cases drew poor response with only 38 of 259 cases turned up for settlement here on Saturday.
The Nationalised bank had summoned 259 loan defaulters from Ramanathapuram, Kilakarai and Rameswaram for the Lok Adalat, inaugurated by Principal District Judge W.Sathasivam.
Only 38 defaulters turned up for the Adalat but all of them settled their dues.
Giving details of the cases, Mr P.N.Muraleedaran, Administrative Officer of the District Legal Service Authority, which organised the Adalat, said the 38 cases were settled for a total amount of Rs 33,29,800.
A sum of Rs 2,68,200 was paid in cash on Saturday as one time settlement by some defaulters, while others sought three to six months time to settle the amounts, he said.
A defaulter, who had obtained a salary loan of Rs One lakh in 2010 and had an outstanding of Rs 72,000 settled it for 51,000. Similarly, a Self Help Group, which had an outstanding of Rs 1.68 lakhs closed the loan after paying Rs 1.25 lakh in one time settlement.
It was presided over by Retired Sub Judge S.Annamalai. Mr G.Kesavan, senior advocate sat as advocate member.
