Activists from various consumer forums staged a dharna in front of the collectorate here on Monday.

They urged the Government to carry out maintenance work on the damaged roads in both the national and state highways, including rural roads, as they were full of pot holes.

Presiding over the dharna, president of the Federation of Consumer Organizations (Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry), M.Thomas said that it was shameful that maintenance work was not carried out even on the National Highyway-47 and 47 B.

Though the district had many tourist spots, tourists found it difficult to visit them as all most all roads were unmotorable.

Hence, he appealed to the district administration to relay the roads or carry out maintenance work.

MLA of Colachel constituency, J.G.Prince inaugurated the dharna.President of Kanyakumari District Consumer Protection Center, C.Thangasabapathy, president of Kottaram Women Consumer Protection Center, S.Kasthuri and others participated.
