Tiruvannamalai: As the Vandavasi by-election campaign sets to culminate on Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta on Wednesday discussed modalities for polling day with Tiruvannamalai Collector M. Rajendran over video conferencing.

Mr. Gupta discussed video recording of polling booths, SMS updating of hourly polling statistics and 13 alternative documents that can be accepted by polling officials as alternative proof of identity of voters.

At the end of the meeting, the Collector told officials, “alternative documents are only for those who have not received EPIC .”

Alternative documents that can be accepted as proof of identity for voting include passport, PAN card, driving licence, service identity cards of government or public sector employees, bank pass book, pension documents, property documents, SC, ST, OBC certificates, freedom fighter identity card, arms licence, physically handicapped identity card, NREGS job card and health insurance scheme smart card (Ministry of Labour scheme). The documents should bear a photo of the holder and should have been delivered before 31st of October, the Collector told officials.
